Yep, that's what some stupid cnut in Bath Council reckons. Apparently he said it back in July, but MCN only picked up on it this week (on the ball as ever)

He reckons that accidents are caused by people driving too fast. Potholes and poor road surfaces make people slow down, therefore, potholes reduce accident rates.

Councillor Andrew Furse (andrew_furse@bathnes.gov.uk) said "If the road was left with a certain amount of potholes then traffic speeds would be reduced while less taxpayers' money would be spent. "

Anyone care to take him for a ride on a hard-tail?

Nah - he is right - to a degree. Visit Belgium and try speeding through villages that have cobbled streets - impossible - unless, of course, you have a 4x4 and then the theary goes to............................................pot!

It would have a knock on effect that eventually there would be less accidents as everyone would be either in the hospital or the cemetary :D
