You need a motorcycle to be a motorcyclist.

To be a Biker you can get away with telling the pub that your spare room is filled with oily cardboard boxes containing parts that will be a bitchin' hot chop 5 years down the line.

It doesnt even have to be true.

Worked beside a guy who liked to think he was biker. He had a motorike & that's where the similarity ended. He had a clip on fake pony tail that used to be standing on end by the time he left each night with all the static in our office! He eventually sold his bike & bikers of the world breathed a sigh of relief. :D

I got a mate he said he was a biker so i tried to talk with him about it, his reply "I just get on it and ride it, anything else it goes into the shop".

Biker or Motorcyclist? the decision is Yours.

Oh and he dosnt do the rally 'thing' either

In the days when I had my Goldwing (naked GL1000) I stopped at a pub in the New Forest and hadn't noticed the sign saying "No Bikers" the guy behind the bar said "we don't normally let in bikers, but you look like a motorcyclist so as long as you hide the helmet you can come in".................... I was never sure whether that was an insult or not.......

one thing puzzles me,

why do you want to know the difference or indeed feel the need to be able to differentiate ?

will you discriminate against somebody who doesn't fit the criteria of a " BIKER" ?

these are sensible comments and no offence intended !!!!

sign saying "No Bikers"

I remember those days - cos we bikers used to be dirty n smelly n noisy n biting heads off chickens n stuff so we weren't allowed in places in case we lowered the tone

so maybe that's the difference?

anyway girls didn't used to be allowed to be bikers either so I don't give a toss

mind you, I think if you have the right attitude you're a biker - even if you don't have a bike

the attitude? respect for other bikers, helping each other out when in a jam, sticking up for the biker lifestyle, live life to the full and don't give a toss about suits

IMHO anyway

and I've been around 'bikers' since 1978 so quite 'old school' too - apparently - even though to me 1978 is quite modern - gawd - how fast time slips past

So are you still a biker then or have you been given time out by the Biker Categorization Crack Squad?
Or will you have to pay your dues again? Like fall off and camp in the rain and break down and stuff?

That has all the info as what a biker is, its all of us who ramble on about life in general, its a mindset not just a mode of transport.
But its the bikes that bought us together in the first place.

*cack hollywood speach mode off* :D

I think a motorcyclist is someone who can do a perfect u-turn with feet up, knows all the rules of the road off by heart, have their armoured biker gear dry cleaned once a month and polish their bikes every weekend without fail, sometimes they trade in their bikes for Silverwing mopeds because of the extra handy storage space wheras bikers can't be arsed with any of the above and just ride.

Is there though? Maybe the original question should be rephrased to: What makes a person who owns a motorcycle righteous? :)

Like i said before, Im Rob, i love motorbikes, sometimes i hate em to. Theyve been responsible for scar tissue, broken bones etc etc, ive even ended up with mild hypothermia from riding 180 miles in snow and freezing fog. I only passed my car test 5 or so years back and until then motorbikes were my only transport. I dont aspire to any doctrine or uniform, dont see the point in being dirty and riding a wreck to prove a point. I like my clothes pressed and clean and like to shower and wear aftershave etc. Ive ridden all sorts of bikes from streetfighters to mopeds, Big trailies to tourers. Ive competed in enduros etc. But am i a biker? Not as most people would imagine a biker i suppose, not even myself. I love motorbikes, the freedom and the being outdoors etc but im not really a lifestyle kind of person. I dont like being restricted to wearing something or having a set taste in music or the likes. I dunno, i cant speak for anyone else.

Get a bit crowded wouldn't it? 100% of Bikers all standing on that little "1%". I better put on some deodorant...

Mathematically 100% of a Boolean set CAN be part of a subset provided the subset contains all components of the main Set.
So there, it is possible. Just a bit smelly.
