I emailed Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA)
as regarding whether they kept a list of trike testing stations
and got the following reply

well i didnt know this and 460mm is not great but it is an interesting snippet of info that may come in handy for someone (someone making a skinny trike that is)

'Thank you for your e mail.
For your information , if the 2 wheels at the back of the vehicle are less than 460mm apart then it can be treated as 1 wheel. If this is the case then the vehicle might then be tested as a 2 wheeled vehicle and require a class II test as opposed to a class III test.
Please contact the VOSA Birmingham Area Office for local knowledge of testing stations on the following tel no: 0121 783 6665'

Without wishing to sound like a smug bastid (told you so, told you so) that's why Trojan fitted two wheels on the back of a Bubble car in 1960.
It's good to see this info being shared tho. That's what these forums are all about. Well done chap

which brings me to my other Q... if you put a wheel where the centre stand is - is it then a trike?

so you can make a normal bike a trike by adding a small vestigial wheel inn the middle - that barely touches the ground so doesnt affect the handling - so you dont HAVE to wear a lid if you dont want to...
